Dog days of summer bring lull to political front
During these dog days of summer, it’s awfully difficult to come up with decent content.
Pittston Area will be hiring a handful of new teachers.  Let’s see if the only way to secure a job at PA is if one has to follow “Joe Valenti’s Guide on How to land a teaching job?”
Or, considering what has transpired on the east side, will the board now actually hire new teachers based on qualifications along with seniority.
The west side has been equally quiet as well.
It looks like Gil Dominick and Frank Casarella will both run as a team for the Wyoming Area Board.
Both have switched their party affiliation and will run as Independents.  They’ll be looking to oust John LaNunziata and will try to peel of Mike Aufiere as well who won a double.
As far as the county – Sheriff Mike Savokinas has been taking his fair share of bad press.
Don’t look for the powers to support Savokinas next time around.  They aren’t too pleased with him and their thought is he’ll bring down the ticket.
Finally, have you seen the River Front park in Pittston City lately?
   It’s a mess.
I forget the last time I actually saw anyone down there.
I’ve driven by the new water front in Wilkes Barre and it is pristine.
There is really no excuse for our water front to be in the condition it is..

WA Director Estelle Campenni
Campenni right on the mark with letter
Estelle Campenni had quite the letter to the editor in the Dispatch last week.
There is nothing like a woman, the caliber of Campenni, putting someone like Gerry Wall in his place.
   Campenni was right.
Sure this board saved the district from the previous board’s building project.
The problem, while they scaled the project from $20 million to $15 million, they never paid down the $20 million loan to $15 million.
For the last four years, the board used the $5 million to balance the budget.
As the old saying goes, pay me now or pay me a lot later.
The interest on the five million has to be paid.  There is no escaping that.
By the way, has anyone ever compared the cost per square foot between the old building project and the new project?
That’s an article for a later time.
